Entrepreneurship Forum

[Media Release] ICT Geelong throws support behind Regional Entrepreneurship

ICT Geelong will host 10 major events over the next two years aimed at fostering entrepreneurship and innovation in the Geelong region.

With support from the State Government’s Skilling the Bay program, ICT Geelong will facilitate five forums and five innovation masterclasses to motivate small and medium enterprises (SMEs) to develop entrepreneurial orientation, knowledge and skills.

The first forum and masterclass were held in conjunction with the Pivot Summit in October 2015 in Geelong. This event attracted 300 delegates who joined Australian and international thought leaders and shared insights on the future of business.

The General manager of ICT Geelong, Mr Aamir Qutub said the overall objective of the forums, to be chaired by recognised leaders in entrepreneurship, is to help attendees understand what it takes to create scalable and exportable businesses regardless of industry, be it IT, manufacturing or services and to attract the necessary financial backing.

The innovation masterclasses supports individuals, start-up businesses and SMEs to translate into practice the skills acquired in the forums.

The first entrepreneurship forum was held on Wednesday, October 28 as a morning session of the Pivot Summit. The first innovation Masterclass was staged following the Pivot Summit on October 29.

Mr Qutub said forum participants learnt from some of the world’s leading innovation and entrepreneurship educators what it takes to innovate in today’s highly competitive and fast-changing world. Masterclasses targeted at applicants who can demonstrate the potential for practical application of learning within their organisations.

Five themes underpinned the forums and masterclasses.

    1.

The idea: Meet the Founders (Yes, I can do it too!)

    2.

The Pitch Factor : Pitching for investment/ becoming investor ready

    3.

Lean Launchpad : Evidence-based entrepreneurship and validation of ideas

    4.

Show me the Money: Strategies for Success (maximising value using various funding sources)

    5.

Fear of Failure : Bringing it all together
